Thank you to all of you who filled the Vet’s Rotunda Room last night for the L.A. County Workshop. It was a typical example of the outstanding community involvement our residents engage in. We must continue to put pressure on the County to listen to reason about the approval of the EIR.

Here’s a follow up to the information mentioned last night about the appearance of Joy Horowitz discussing her book on the Beverly Hills oil issue.

AUTHOR TO SPEAK ON THE POISONING OF BEVERLY HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

Joy Horowitz , author of “Parts Per Million, the Poisoning of Beverly Hills High School,” will speak on Thursday, July 24 at 6:00 PM at the Culver City Library. Her book examines the disproportionately high rate of cancer suffered by the teachers and students of Beverly Hills High School which was blamed on the oil pumping operation adjacent to the school. The case was made famous when Erin Brockovich filed a lawsuit against the School District. The topic is especially relevant today in Culver City, in view of the recently released Environmental Impact Report of the Baldwin Hills oil field.

The event, sponsored by the Culver City Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

The Culver City Julian Dixon Library is located at 4975 Overland Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230. Overflow parking is available next door to the North of the Library at 4909 Overland Avenue. For more information, go to our website, www.ccfol.org. For ADA accommodation, call (310) 830-0231 (voice) or (310) 830-4532 (TTY) Monday – Friday at least 6 days prior to event.

In as much as it’s been a pleasure providing this newsletter to the residents of Culver Crest, we sadly announce that this will be the last edition.  However, it is for a very good reason.  Our new website, skillfully and professionally created by our C.C.N.A. Board Member Antoine Durr, eliminates the need to create and distribute a hard copy of what will be posted on the internet.  It will reduce costs and imagine the number of trees we’ll save.  The website will keep you abreast of events affecting the Crest and in a more current manner.  In addition, it provides the ability to post your own news and comments and is therefore a working tool to keep us all more involved and provide better communication.

The C.C.N.A. will still provide news bulletins on an as needed basis via internet.  If you currently don’t receive our notices, it means we don’t have your email address on file.  Please send us your email address to Mike Bauer at culvercity99 (at) aol (dot) com.

See you at www.culvercrest.org

July is our fiscal year end for annual dues payments.  If you haven’t already paid, please complete the “Application for Membership” form that is on page 2 of the newsletter and with your annual membership dues of $60 (suggested amount) or more or less, and send or bring it to Mike Bauer at 10676 Esterina Way.

As a reminder, serving on the Board of Directors of the C.C.N.A. is strictly voluntary and without compensation of any kind.  All membership proceeds goes towards expenses incurred for outside services and expenses.

I believe most residents of Culver Crest will agree that having a progressive school system is vital to not only educating our children but of maintaining high living standards and property values to its neighbors. As such, we have an opportunity to support a new and dynamic program that is taking place right here at El Rincon. A Science Discover Lab is being developed that will be hands-on state-of-the-art and used by the entire Culver City Unified School District.

El Rincon Science Lab Letter Please open the attached letter from the Culver City Education Foundation that will explain the program and inform you how you can support this program. It is rare that an opportunity like this is available. We can help it come to fruition.

Annual Membership Dues

September 10, 2007

Thanks to all of you who sent voluntary membership dues to the CCNA for the coming year.  The response was overwhelming and much appreciated by your Board of Directors.  If you planned to give and just didn’t get to it, here’s a reminder.  Again, it’s voluntary.  Just complete the Application for Membership below and send it or bring it to Mike Bauer, 10676 Esterina Way, Culver City, CA 90230.

Your Board of Directors and residents of Culver Crest thank you very much.

It’s sad when old friends leave but that’s what Larry and Linda Price are doing.  Long-time Flaxton Street residents of our Crest, Larry and Linda have decided it’s best to be closer to the kids, so off they go.

Best wishes to you guys and let’s hear from you once in awhile.

The Saturday night before Halloween, October 27th, the CCNA will join Leslie Ekker in staging our annual Halloween Fest on Lugo Way.  ALL ARE INVITED.  Bring something for at least six people to eat, as food is always a la carte and pot luck.  Festivities commence at 6 pm.  There will be fun, delights, scary stuff, decorations and gosh knows what all.  Look for the flyer a few weeks before the party that will be distributed throughout the Crest.

If you can volunteer to set up decorations, tents and stuff, please contact Howard Lichtman at 310-202 8001.  It will be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Rich Kissel who was recently elected President of the Culver City Homeowner’s Association.  His first order of business is to re-vamp their constitution and format. We look forward to a very progressive year from Rich.
